In November we took a trip to Indianapolis with our good friends from BurgerSutra. As with any trip we wanted to find some great eateries around the city.
It happened to work out that while we were there, Medium Well of BurgerSutra was celebrating a birthday. As a surprise wanted to get some birthday cupcakes and after some research we found a cupcake shop just a few miles from our hotel. It was a beautiful, warm November day so we set out on a lovely little walking adventure through Indy until we came upon The Flying Cupcake.
The inside of the shop was very cute, small but cute. There was only one small table and a few stools to sit at a small counter. There was a pretty good selection of cupcakes and truffles on display. Most of them had quirky names. We decided on 2 Red Velvet cupcakes named the Red Velvet Elvis, a vanilla "birthday" cupcake that was a simple yet cute cupcake with a little ballerina on top, an oreo filled and topped cupcake, and an oreo truffle (If you didn’t catch it, we like oreos).
Since it was a beautiful day for November, we decided to get our cupcakes to go. We had seen a park along the way to the shop and headed back that way in hopes of finding a place to sit and enjoy our cupcakes. As we made our way back to the entrance of the park, we noticed a statue and because one of us is a history dork (the ginger), we walked over to see who the mystery statue may be. To our surprise it was none other than a statue of good old Baberaham Lincoln! This had to be a sign that this was the place for us to hang out. We entered the park and saw some sort of event at the opposite side of the park. We thought it might be some sort of concert or performance and we asked ourselves "Could Indy get any better??" As we got closer we realized that this wonderful concert was actually some sort of homeless rally where they were giving away free clothes, supplies, and doing free health checks.......... We realized that this was NOT infact the crowd that we wanted to share our magical cupcakes with so we decided to walk back downtown.
We walked back to the circle in the middle of Indy and sat outside and enjoyed the cupcakes while watching all of the Christmas lights and decorations go up around the circle.

Ok, this isn't what it looked like while we were there and because apparently they don't turn the lights on until after Thanksgiving but you can use your imagination...or just look at the picture...
Look at that amazing cupcake!! (Ignore the portapotty in the background and just enjoy the red velvity cream chessy deliciousness.)
As we sat and indulged in our cupcakes we became very excited to see the christmas decorations all lit up at night because our hotel had a view of the circle.

Overall we had a great time in Indy and look for another post soon about the delicious nachos we found!
The Flying cupcake was amazing and anyone who is visiting Indy should go and treat themselves to a delicious cupcake!
